Hawkeye Organic Fly Bait has been formulated and developed to safely control the common house fly, Musca Domestica using a new approach to fly management away from traditional sprays.
Fly Bait contains a natural, slow working active ingredient (Spinosad) with mortality taking 12-24 hours, often overnight.
*Allowed for use in organic production
Directions for use
Indoor use only. Hawkeye Organic Fly Bait will not attract flies from a long distance, and flies need to detect the smell of the bait to be encouraged to feed on it. It is important that bait stations are placed in areas:
1. Where flies land frequently
2. Out of areas where air flow is high as this will blow away the attractive smells from the bait
3. Away from other strong smelling foods as these will mask the attractive smells from the bait
4. On clean surfaces. Other foods, no matter how small may distract flies from the bait
Bait stations can be used with 2 halves joined together to reduce access to children and pets, or each half may be used separately if pets and children are not at risk.
Hawkeye Organic Fly Bait contains a natural, slow working active ingredient with mortality taking 12-24 hours, eg often overnight. Flies are more likely to move some distance from the bait station before dying after consuming bait. Regular vacuuming is recommended because while using this bait dead flies are likely to drop around the rooms where the fly bait is positioned. Due to the slow working nature of the natural active ingredient flies will still be seen inside as new flies comes in open windows and doors replacing those that have fed on the bait but numbers should not continue to increase.
Hawkeye Fly Bait can be applied in supplied bait stations indoors around the window sills, on the top of fridges, tables, or bench tops where flies are most active.
The stations should be placed at a height and in areas inaccessible to children or pets.
How to use:
- Carefully observe the fly movement in your house and select areas where they land or congregate the most.
- Carefully open the Hawkeye fly bait bottle and fill the station to approximately 1 mm below the top edge.
- Place the bait station in the selected areas where flies are landing e.g. on the fridge, tabletops, windowsills, bench tops etc away from the reach of pets or children
- Periodically tip the contents out of bait station if it is covered with flies and clear out any dead flies around the bait station.
- Clean out and refill the station with fresh bait when no longer killing and/or attracting flies.
- Discard the bait contents and the bait station as per instructions once you get satisfactory results and a reduction in fly numbers
Technical Information
Flies are vectors of disease, capable of spreading pathogens from unsanitary locations to food and surfaces. They transmit bacteria, viruses and parasites through their legs, which pick up germs from places like faeces and garbage, and can contaminate food, leading to illness such as salmonella, and dysentery. Many different species of flies inhabit dwellings in New Zealand, but there are 3 primary fly species that are routinely present nation wide. These are Musca Domestica (common housefly), Fannia Canicularis (lesser housefly), and various blowfly species.
The common house fly is most prevalent, while lesser housefly is the species where the male flies in an irregular pattern within a small area, often in the middle of the room under lights. They don't land often during the day but will overnight.
Hawkeye Organic Fly Bait has been formulated and developed to safely control the common house fly, Musca Domestica using a new approach to fly management away from traditional sprays, but sometimes isn't as effective for fast knock down.
Hawkeye Organic Fly Bait is made using a naturally derived active ingredient, Spinosad (0.4%). Spinosad was firstly discovered in the 80's, when there were a bunch of dead flies on the ground and a soil sample was taken and Spinosad grows form a certain type of bacteria,
