Hawkeye Wasp Bait is now a 500mL liquid bait that has an improved formulation that has been extensively trialed in New Zealand.

The liquid bait works by wiping out the nest in 3-4 weeks.

It is a highly attractive bait to foraging wasps which is taken back to the nest to wipe it out.

Controls Common and German Wasp populations. Does not control Paper wasps.

No pre-baiting is needed.

Beekeeper discounts will be applied if you purchase a minimum of 5 baits in one order.

Directions for use

Hawkeye Wasp Bait attracts foraging wasps, who take the bait back and wipe out the entire nest. Only suitable for Common and German wasps.

Carefully observe wasp activity and locate areas where wasps are foraging the most on your property. It is recommended to place the bait 5-10m away from where wasps are foraging for food (or hives for beekeepers) in the direction where wasps are coming from. The height of stations set up should be based on the height that wasps are flying when approaching the food source. This is typically 1.2-1.4m above the ground but may differ depending on the topography of the specific environment. Placement of bait stations at 5m intervals along fence lines that wasps follow can also be an effective technique.

HAWKEYE WASP BAIT DIRECTIONS:

  1. Placement: Identify areas where wasps forage, avoiding locations with strong odours like flower beds. Choose open areas, preferably out of direct sunlight, for bait placement.
  2. Station Assembly: Assemble bait stations by attaching them securely using cable ties or screws to fences, posts, or trees. Ensure stations are stable and accessible.
  3. Bait Application: Fill the bait well halfway with the required amount of bait. Use 10g of bait for home use and 20g for commercial applications. Ensure precise measurement to avoid over- or under-baiting.
  4. Station Closure: Place the filled bait well into the cavity of the station and close it securely. Check for any gaps or openings to prevent spillage or tampering.
  5. Effectiveness Monitoring: Monitor bait stations regularly for reduced wasp activity. You should notice a decrease in activity within a couple of weeks, with complete nest elimination expected in about 4 weeks.
  6. Bait Replacement: If the bait changes appearance to white and fluffy, indicating it is spent, replace it with fresh bait. Discard the spent bait properly to prevent accidental exposure.

Once the placement is determined, assemble stations and attach using cable ties or screws. Place on fences, posts, and trees. Shake bait well before use.

Hawkeye Wasp Bait does not attract honeybees. Despite this, every precaution should be taken if working with bees in the vicinity. It is recommended not to place the bait stations close to areas where bees are most active.

You should notice a reduction in wasp activity within 2 weeks of placement and elimination of the nest in approximately 4 weeks. Replace bait in the wells when they are empty, anywhere from 1-2 days depending on wasp pressure. Repeat application after 4 weeks if wasp numbers reach problem levels again (you may be dealing with multiple large nests if re-application is needed).

If wasps are still present and dried bait remains after several weeks, this indicates incomplete uptake of the bait. This may be due to environmental conditions, natural food availability, or foragers not looking for food. Wait 3-4 weeks then repeat placement or contact us for further advice.

Technical Information

Hawkeye Wasp Bait is a scientifically developed bait consisting of protein,  sugar and highly attractive food-grade volatiles that draws wasps to the bait stations. The wasps feed on the sugar content of the bait and take the protein and active back to the nest to feed the young ones, resulting in wiping out the whole nest.

Hawkeye Wasp Bait is made up of wasp attractants, wasp foods and insecticide active ingredient to provide a highly palatable matrix to wasps that is taken back to the nest and eliminate it.

It has been deliberately formulated with an active ingredient that is slow acting so that it will be taken back to the nest and distributed around all the wasps instead of killing the wasp transporting it. Because of this, it takes time to work and does not give an instant kill of foraging wasps.

Foraging wasps have been given information from scout foragers on the location of good food for the nest. It is vital for the performance of the wasp bait that it is placed out where wasps are foraging, otherwise uptake will be poor. It shouldn’t simply be placed in the wasp flight path, or put out when wasps are not actively foraging, eg during times of stress or drought when nest growth slows.

Hawkeye wasp bait can be stored for up to 2 years under ambient conditions in the provided packaging. Refrigeration is not necessary.

Hawkeye wasp bait has been formulated to be attractive all year round. It can be used at any time of the year without the need for prebaiting.
